Charity Super.Mkt's Buchanan Galleries store becomes its best performer in the UK

Glasgow shoppers have embraced preloved fashion like nowhere else. Charity Super.Mkt, which describes itself as the department store for second-hand style, has revealed that its store in Buchanan Galleries is its best performing location, generating more sales and more money for charities than any of its UK shops.

The milestone came as the brand celebrated sales of more than five million pounds since it launched. To date, more than 640,000 items of clothing have found new homes, generating over 5.6 million pounds in sales for partner charities including Cancer Research UK, Age UK and, in Scotland, the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice and Shelter.

Charity Super.Mkt was launched in 2023 by Wayne Hemingway, co-founder of the 1990s fashion brand Red or Dead, which once had a store on nearby Buchanan Street, and Maria Chenoweth, chief executive of the charity TRAID. It brings together curated collections from leading charities under one roof.

The Glasgow flagship, on the upper floor of Buchanan Galleries, opened in May 2024. Since then, local shoppers have saved more than 30,697 kilograms of fashion, footwear and accessories from landfill, with the brand estimating that more than 276 tonnes of carbon dioxide has been avoided.

Wayne Hemingway said the Buchanan Galleries store is proving to be the best yet, attracting a real cross-section of Glasgow's most stylish shoppers, from students hunting for vintage gems to people seeking designer bargains. The positive social and environmental impact, he said, has been incredible.

The Glasgow shop describes itself as a celebration of circular fashion and Scottish style at its best. Wayne Hemingway thanked Buchanan Galleries and the public for their support, saying the team was grateful to have reached the milestone.

The brand also offers its Made Better collection, in which pieces are carefully laundered, repaired and reimagined by the team, stitched, patched and upcycled so they are, in its words, made better.

As well as Glasgow, Charity Super.Mkt has stores in Brighton and at Old Spitalfields Market in London.
