Crossbasket Castle opens Hebridean-inspired riverside cabins near East Kilbride

A historic castle estate near East Kilbride, just outside Glasgow, has opened a new chapter. Crossbasket Castle has added 12 luxury riverside cabins within its grounds, with the first guests welcomed from 1 October 2026.

The cabins are designed as secluded, nature-led and unhurried escapes. Positioned along the banks of the river, they offer guests the chance to watch the seasons change and enjoy the surrounding woodland, while being just moments from the heart of the castle and its five-star hospitality.

Inside, the design draws on the textures and tones of the Hebrides. Each cabin sleeps up to four guests and features a suite-style bedroom, while a standout feature is an enclosed bathroom on the balcony with a freestanding copper roll-top bath and undisturbed views of nature.

The cabins are the latest step in the estate's transformation, which saw a new 40-bedroom hotel and entertainment-led dining experiences open in 2025. A new Four Angels Spa is also due to open, adding to the estate's growing wellness offering.

Crossbasket describes itself as a 15th century castle brought into the sophisticated present, and guests can now choose between four ways to stay: the castle itself, the contemporary new hotel building, a private lodge or one of the new riverside cabins.

Dining is a big part of the experience, from slow mornings in Foveran's light-filled, palm-court-style restaurant to evenings in Trocadero's, the estate's entertainment-led dining room. The estate is also a neighbour and partner of Caledonia Gladiators, whose VIP basketball package has included an overnight stay at the castle.

The cabins form part of what the estate calls its evolving wellness-led offering, and although each lodge feels entirely private, guests are only moments away from the castle's restaurants and, this winter, festive packages including a Three Day Christmas Escape.

For Glaswegians looking for a special occasion stay without travelling far, the estate offers a taste of escape close to home, and for visitors it is a grand base for exploring the west of Scotland.
