Padel has arrived at one of Glasgow's biggest sports centres. Glasgow Life, the charity that delivers culture, events and active living in the city, has created three indoor padel courts at Glasgow Club Scotstoun, giving players of all ages and abilities the chance to enjoy the fast-growing sport all year round.

Work began in March 2026 to convert two of the venue's eight indoor tennis courts into three padel courts, delivered in partnership with Alliance Leisure Services. The remaining six indoor tennis courts mean Scotstoun can continue to offer performance and competition tennis, community coaching and social tennis.

Padel is played in more than 150 countries by over 35 million people. It blends elements of tennis and squash on a court about a third of the size of a tennis court, surrounded by glass walls and fencing, so the ball stays in play for longer and rallies keep players on the move. It is often described as simple to learn but impossible to master.

Glasgow Life highlights the benefits for body and mind. Padel is a fun, full-body workout with plenty of running and quick changes of direction, while its tactical side sharpens focus and decision-making. As a doubles game, it is also a sociable way to spend time with friends and meet new people.

The programme at Scotstoun includes coaching for beginners, intermediate and advanced players, social play sessions and fast-paced Americano events, where players compete individually but switch partners after each round. Racquets can be hired at the venue, so newcomers can try the game without buying their own kit, and balls are available from the Sportmax stand.

The courts add to a venue that is already one of the largest leisure facilities in the city. Glasgow Club Scotstoun is home to the National Badminton Centre, Scotstoun Stadium and Scotstoun Squash Centre, along with a large gym, a swimming pool and floodlit synthetic pitches, and now runs a padel pay-as-you-go programme.

Courts can be booked through the Glasgow Club app, the Glasgow Club website or at the venue, within the standard eight-day advance booking window.

Glasgow Club Scotstoun is in Scotstoun, Glasgow. Details of padel sessions and court bookings are on the Glasgow Life website.
