On a wide, scenic stretch of the River Clyde close to Glasgow Green, Glasgow Rowing Club has been enjoying a busy year on the water.

Founded in 1983, the club describes itself as friendly and has grown into one of the most successful rowing clubs in Scotland. It specialises in taking complete beginners and turning them into international rowers, while also welcoming recreational members who simply enjoy being on the river.

The club is based in its own boathouse on the south bank of the Clyde, with access to more than 5km of river. Its Learn to Row course introduces newcomers to the basics on land and on the water, and those interested in coxing or coaching can train through Scottish Rowing with mentoring from the club's coaching team.

The 2026 Glasgow Rowing Club Regatta took place on Saturday 23 May, with side-by-side racing over a 750m course on the river. The club thanked everyone who joined in for a great day of racing.

The club's head race also returned to the full 5km course on the River Clyde for 2026. Crews raced over approximately 4,000m in two divisions, starting above the Dalmarnock Road Bridge and finishing at the platform in Glasgow Green, with doubles, fours, quads and eights all taking part.

Planning is already under way for next season, and the next Glasgow Rowing Club Regatta will take place on Saturday 1 May 2027.

The club welcomes everyone from recreational rowers to competitive athletes, catering for everyone in between, and its growing, friendly community is a big part of its appeal for newcomers. Anyone wanting to visit or find out more can contact the club secretary through the website.

For anyone who has walked along the river at Glasgow Green and watched crews gliding past, the club's welcoming approach makes it easy to give the sport a try.

Glasgow Rowing Club is based at The Boathouse, Silverfir Street, Glasgow, G5 0JZ. Learn to Row courses and membership details are at glasgowrowingclub.org.
