Glasgow techno label Soma Records celebrates 35 years with the SOMA35 remix series

One of the world's best known electronic music labels has been celebrating a big birthday. Soma Records, founded in Glasgow in 1991, turned 35 in 2026 and has marked the occasion with SOMA35, a specially curated series of remix EPs.
The label was founded by the duo Slam alongside Dave Clarke and Glenn Gibbons, and over three and a half decades it has become a vital and enduring presence in global techno. From Glasgow's early techno foundations to the sounds of today, the anniversary series connects the label's past, present and future.
SOMA35 is planned as six vinyl releases with digital editions. The first instalment, SOMA 35.1, also marked the label's 700th release. It features new versions of Slam's classic Vapour by Mark Broom and FJAAK, alongside fresh remixes of Program by Vril and Linear Phase. It came out digitally in June 2026, with the vinyl following on 24 July.
The second chapter, SOMA 35.2, offered four new takes on Surgeon's 1996 EP Muggerscum Out, described by the label as a defining release in its history and a landmark moment in UK techno. Slam, Lewis Fautzi, Justyn Nell and Norbak each brought their own perspective.
SOMA 35.3 then turned to Percy X, one of the most important artists in the label's history, with remixes from Surgeon, Phara, Lindsey Herbert and Voicedrone and Gareth Wild. Future instalments are set to include artists such as Oscar Mulero and Luke Slater, each choosing tracks from the back catalogue.
The remixers on each release were asked to bring their own perspective to the source material, and the results range from deep and hypnotic grooves to darker, industrial and warehouse-ready interpretations, connecting classic records with a new generation of producers.
Slam themselves spent the summer touring internationally, including a performance at TRNSMT in Glasgow, flying the flag for the city's techno heritage.
For a label that grew out of Glasgow's club culture in the early 1990s, reaching 700 releases and 35 years is a remarkable achievement, and the anniversary series is a reminder of how much the city has given to electronic music around the world.
