For a quarter of a century, Govan Community Project has been building a stronger, more welcoming community in the south-west of Glasgow. In 2026, the charity is marking its 25th anniversary.

Based in Govan, the project supports the diverse communities in its local area as well as refugees and people seeking asylum across the city. Its vision is a strong community based on equality, mutual respect, support and integration.

The charity offers advocacy and casework support and runs a range of services from its community flat. It also provides translation, interpreting and language support to help break down language barriers, and food support for people facing food insecurity.

The anniversary was recognised in the Scottish Parliament in January 2026, when a motion noted the project's work across Glasgow in supporting the local community, refugees and people seeking asylum, praised its food support and commended its work in improving social justice.

To mark the milestone, Govan Community Project has launched its 25 for 25 fundraising campaign, aiming to raise 25,000 pounds for 25 years to help secure the future of its support for Glasgow's refugee and asylum-seeking community. The charity relies on donations, and says any gift, large or small, helps it support the most vulnerable people in the community.

Volunteers play a vital role in the project's work, alongside the staff who run its advocacy, casework and language services, and the charity is always keen to hear from people who would like to get involved, whether by volunteering, fundraising or helping to raise awareness.

Alongside its day-to-day services, the project also speaks up on issues affecting the people it supports, publishing statements on immigration legislation, and runs winter appeals to help people facing destitution during the coldest months of the year.

Twenty-five years on, its work is as important as ever, and the anniversary is a chance for the wider city to recognise the people who have made it happen.
