In the woodland beside Loch Lomond Shores, three generations of one family are helping visitors get closer to some of nature's most impressive birds. Loch Lomond Bird of Prey Centre, which lies within Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, is home to a huge array of eagles, owls, falcons, kestrels and hawks.

The centre has evolved over the years into what it describes as one of the premier bird of prey centres in the country, with a natural and peaceful setting for visitors and birds alike, and high standards of accommodation, cleanliness and welfare.

Daily flying shows take place in a managed woodland flying area, letting visitors see the birds at close quarters while learning about their unique features and the threats they face in the wild. There is no need to book; visitors can simply turn up. For something more personal, the centre offers packages for up-close experiences with the birds.

The family-run team, with the youngest generation helping out when he can, is enthusiastic and knowledgeable about raptors and conservation. The centre has been involved in many conservation projects over the years, and education is at the heart of what it does.

Staff see their role as educating and enlightening visitors about nature, conservation and raptors, a mission that sits alongside the conservation experience the centre has built up over many years of work with these birds.

Its newest addition is a Discovery Trail, which invites visitors to learn even more about the birds and native wildlife, with the motto open your eyes to open your mind.

The centre is easy to find, located half-way down the car parks on the main path at Loch Lomond Shores, and during the October 2026 school holidays it was open daily from 11.30am to 2pm.

Combined with the beaches, woodland walks and other attractions at Loch Lomond Shores, it makes for a memorable family day out by the loch.

Loch Lomond Bird of Prey Centre is at Loch Lomond Shores, Balloch. Experience packages and opening details are at llbopc.co.uk.
