Slanj Kilts designs Twinned in Tartan to celebrate Glasgow's link with Boston

A new tartan has been woven into Glasgow's story. Glasgow-based tartan specialists Slanj Kilts have designed Twinned in Tartan, a bespoke tartan commissioned and registered by Buchanan Galleries to celebrate Glasgow's twinning with Boston, Massachusetts.

The idea grew from the warm welcome Scotland fans received in Boston, which was a host city during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and the impression the Tartan Army left on the city. The design weaves together colours inspired by the flags of Glasgow and Boston, along with the green of Fenway Park's famous Green Monster, a nod to Boston's sporting heritage.

To mark the occasion, Buchanan Galleries also commissioned a ceremonial kilt in the new tartan, to be gifted to the City of Boston for the official twinning ceremony, recognising the long history between the two Atlantic port cities.

Brian Halley of Slanj Kilts said it was fantastic to see the connection that developed between Scottish and Boston fans. The team was delighted to help create a tartan representing the friendship, culture and shared spirit between the two cities, and he hoped it would become a much-loved symbol of the new partnership.

Bailie Christy Mearns, Depute Lord Provost of Glasgow, described the design as a creative and distinctly Scottish way to celebrate the friendship, while Buchanan Galleries centre director Kathy Murdoch said it was a lasting symbol of the connection between the two cities.
