The Glasgow Distillery in Hillington releases its first 10 year old peated whisky

One of Glasgow's independent whisky makers has reached a landmark. The Glasgow Distillery, based in Hillington, has released its first ever 10 Year Old Peated Single Malt Scotch Whisky, celebrating ten years since the team began producing peated spirit in 2016.

The new Glasgow 1770 10 Year Old Peated is one of the distillery's most limited releases, with only 550 bottles produced. It brings together whisky matured in three ex-Bourbon casks, two refill and one first-fill, which were married together and bottled at 54% ABV.

The decision to use only ex-Bourbon casks was deliberate, allowing the character of the peated spirit and its decade of maturation to shine through. The distillery describes notes of delicate bonfire smoke, honeyed sweetness, tropical fruit and citrus, with a gentle waxy texture and lingering oak spice. It is natural in colour and non-chill filtered.

Peated whisky has grown into a major part of life at Hillington. Today it accounts for around five months of the distillery's annual production, and its peated releases are among its most popular whiskies around the world.

Sebastian Bunford-Jones, head of sales and marketing, said there is something particularly special about releasing a whisky that represents ten years of what the team has been building in Glasgow. When they first started producing peated spirit, he said, this whisky was quite literally at the beginning of that journey, and opening the casks to see how it had developed has been incredibly rewarding.

It has been a busy year for the distillery. Its annual Glasgow 1770 series grew to three limited releases in 2026: Batch 2 of its Bourbon Cask Matured, a second outing for its Ruby Port Cask Finish after a sell-out debut in 2025, and an all-new Sherry Cask Matured single malt. Each carries an age statement and is bottled at natural colour, non-chill filtered and at batch strength.

Presented in a gift carton, the 10 Year Old Peated is expected to be a popular festive gift for whisky lovers, and visitors can also see where it is made on a tour of the Hillington site.
