One of Scotland's most iconic aquatic venues is back in full swing. The main pool at Glasgow Club Tollcross reopened to the public on Thursday 30 April 2026 following a major refurbishment, ready for the local community and for the world's best swimmers at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

The work, part of Glasgow Life's capital development programme, was supported by £2.9 million from Glasgow Life and Glasgow City Council. It focused on pool and plant repairs, including re-tiling the main pool and refurbishing the filtration system.

A further £850,000 from the Glasgow 2026 venue readiness fund paid for improvements to spectator seating, lighting, competition starting blocks and the video board. These are permanent legacy items, gifted to the venue as part of the Games' long-term investment in Glasgow's sporting future.

Tollcross opened in 1997 and regularly welcomes more than 1,000 recreational and club swimmers every day. Thousands of people have learned to swim there, and it was a key venue at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, when Scottish swimmers including Ross Murdoch and Hannah Miley won gold in front of a home crowd.

There was a special honour for one of the city's own, too. Stand B at Tollcross has been renamed The Scott Stand after Glasgow-born swimmer Duncan Scott, who says it was at Tollcross, as a teenager at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, that he fell in love with competitive swimming. He is also featured in one of seven murals on railway arches along the Clydeside Expressway, created by Dair McCormick and David Breen at Residents Studio.

Duncan said it was fantastic to see Tollcross reopening, adding that high-quality local pools are vital not just for elite athletes but for grassroots participation, community health and inspiring the next generation.

George Hunter of Glasgow Life said Glasgow Club Tollcross is a much-loved facility at the heart of its community, where local people will continue to benefit from a high-quality space to swim, train and stay active.

With its legacy upgrades now in place, Tollcross is set to keep inspiring swimmers of every level for years to come.

Glasgow Club Tollcross is in Tollcross, Glasgow. Swimming timetables and lessons are listed on the Glasgow Life website.
